Dubai Leaders Approve AED 18 Billion Infrastructure and Sustainability Package

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed approved an AED 18 billion package of projects and strategies on July 1, 2026, covering transport, culture, finance and population tracking. The Executive Council endorsed several specific initiatives under this package, including infrastructure upgrades and new digital tools for city management.

Transport Corridor and Drainage Initiatives

The First Al Khail Street Development Plan received approval for a 15-kilometer elevated corridor running parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road. Officials have positioned this as a measure to improve peak-hour movement for residents across multiple districts. Dubai Municipality also launched the Tasreef project, an AED 30 billion unified rainwater drainage system serving nine areas with phased rollout and completion targeted for 2033.

Address System and Population Tracking Updates

A new visual identity for the city's address system will be introduced across 186 areas by 2029. Alongside this, the council advanced a real-time AI-powered population clock named Dubai Population Now to support planning and service delivery. These measures tie into broader strategies for managing growth and improving daily navigation for residents and visitors.

Park Design, Fintech and Talent Programs

New initiatives include the world's first AI-powered park design competition for Al Safa 2 Park. A Global Centre for Islamic Fintech is planned under DIFC, while the Emirati Talents Strategy aims to place 3,000 nationals in private education roles by 2033. These elements form part of the wider package focused on culture, finance and human capital.
