The temperature may be rising but Dubai’s early mornings and evenings are seeing a steady stream of walkers taking to the city’s top trails, many of which are now being rated and marked for distance and difficulty by Dubai Municipality and local fitness groups.

With the summer lull underway and many gyms shifting to off-peak schedules, outdoor walking has become the go-to fitness activity for residents seeking accessible exercise options. The city’s parks and promenades now cater to both beginners and more serious walkers, reflecting a broader shift toward low-impact, community-centred fitness in the wake of the recent Dubai Fitness Challenge 30x30.

Dubai’s Best-Rated Trails by the Numbers

For a leisurely, social stroll, the 7km Marina Walk loop remains a crowd favourite. Starting from Al Gharbi Street, hugging the canal past the Marina Mall, and looping around the high-rises and cafes, the surface here is flat and well-shaded, making it ideal for families or those easing into fitness. The Dubai Municipality’s signage at key entry points now lists average completion times and estimated calorie burn, giving newcomers real-time benchmarks for their walks.

For those eager to push a little further, Safa Park offers a marked 3.4km soft track that attracts both early risers and weekend crowd. With running lane separation, the shaded path is newly resurfaced as of February, according to the park’s management. Entry remains a budget-friendly AED 3, and the park’s location between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Road makes it accessible from Jumeirah and Al Safa.

Ambitious walkers are heading inland to Mushrif National Park. Here, the outer circuit is an 8km shaded trail dotted with desert gardens and Ghaf trees. Rated ‘moderate’ by the Dubai Sports Council, the path has some gentle inclines and sand patches, offering more challenge than the Marina’s flat loop. Entry to Mushrif Park remains AED 10 per car, and parking near the adventure park gate is free. The park has also piloted a digital check-in board tracking trail usage, with over 3,800 registered walkers in June alone.

Fitness Trends, Data and What Next

According to a 2026 Dubai Health Authority survey, nearly 41% of residents now report regular walking as their main form of exercise, a 9% jump since 2024. Enthusiasm spikes during events like the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge 30x30, but even outside these campaigns, park managers report busy tracks just after sunrise through to late evening. The Marina Walk in particular sees up to 2,000 steps recorded hourly on the StrideOn community tracker between 6am and 8am, with spikes again after 7pm. Meanwhile, Dubai Municipality’s Fit4Life outreach continues free Saturday morning walks at Zabeel Park, attracting everyone from retirees to stroller-pushing parents.

For residents considering outdoor walking, experts recommend starting early or later in the evening to avoid peak heat. Lightweight hats, SPF, and a bottle of water are essential. Most parks have water points every 1.5km, and shaded rest stops—verified by the Fit4Life map—are common in Safa, Al Barsha Pond Park, and Creek Park. Entry fees range from free (Marina Walk, Al Barsha Pond Park) to AED 5 or less, making regular walks a cost-effective way to stay active.

The city’s ongoing investment in green public spaces is only expected to expand options. As Dubai pushes towards its 2040 Urban Master Plan goal of more accessible community parks, new trails are slated for the rapidly growing Dubai Hills and Al Khawaneej districts. Until then, early birds—and their evening peers—will keep pounding the pavements from Downtown to the desert, racking up both their daily steps and a string of new favourite trails.
