Dubai Municipality launched free senior fitness programs on July 6 with group sessions now running twice weekly for residents aged 60 and older.

The move aligns with preparations for the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30x30 that begins in October and targets broader participation across age groups in a city where summer heat limits outdoor activity after 9am most days.

Sessions at Marina Walk and JBR beach

Instructors from the municipality's wellness team lead 45-minute classes every Tuesday and Thursday at 7am on the Marina Walk running track in Dubai Marina, focusing on balance work and gentle stretching. Parallel sessions take place at the public fitness zones along JBR beach in Jumeirah Beach Residence, where participants use shaded areas near the promenade for seated strength exercises and walking drills.

Both sites feature water stations and rest benches installed last year by the municipality to support older adults during the programs. Residents must show proof of age and Dubai residency at the first session but face no fees or equipment costs.

Participation numbers and next steps

Municipal records show 1,450 seniors attended at least one council-led class in the first half of 2026, up from 920 during the same period in 2025. The programs tie into the ongoing 30x30 initiative that recorded 2.1 million activity hours citywide last year.

Those interested can sign up through the Dubai Municipality website or by calling the dedicated wellness line at 800-900 before the next available slots on July 14. Local clinics in Al Sufouh and Al Barsha also hold information sheets for anyone seeking details on the schedule.
