Dubai in 3 Days: The Perfect Itinerary
Dubai in three days delivers the full spectrum of what the emirate has constructed in half a century — from the creek-side traditional souks of old Deira to the Burj Khalifa's vertiginous observation deck and the Palm Jumeirah's artificial island excess. The city's Red Line Metro efficiently connects most tourist destinations and taxis are plentiful and metered. What Dubai lacks in organic urban character it compensates for in sheer spectacular ambition.
Day one: Downtown Dubai — Burj Khalifa observation deck at sunrise (book At the Top weeks in advance), Dubai Mall's indoor waterfall and aquarium, the Dubai Fountain show at 6pm (free from the waterfront walkway), dinner at Souk Al Bahar's Arabic restaurants with Burj views. Day two: old Dubai — Deira Gold Souk and Spice Souk in the morning, abra water taxi across the creek to Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, the Dubai Museum, and the Bastakiya quarter's galleries and the atmospheric Arabian Tea House for lunch. Day three: beach and the Palm — a hotel beach club day pass at JBR or Kite Beach, drive across the Palm Jumeirah, then dinner in DIFC's restaurant row for the emirate's most cosmopolitan dining.
Dubai's NOL card covers the Metro and buses. Taxis are inexpensive by Western standards (AED 3/km metered) and Uber and Careem operate throughout. Dining costs range from AED 15–30 for an excellent shawarma or mandi rice to AED 300–600+ at signature hotel restaurants. Budget AED 600–1,000/day (approximately US$165–270) for a comfortable mid-range Dubai experience including Burj Khalifa entry and beach access.
