Palm Jumeirah: Dubai's Iconic Island
Palm Jumeirah is the world's largest man-made island and Dubai's most recognizable symbol from the air — a palm-tree-shaped archipelago extending 5 kilometres into the Arabian Gulf that houses some of the world's most expensive real estate, hotels, and beach clubs. The Palm Monorail runs from Gateway Towers at the trunk to the Atlantis hotel at the crown, giving visitors a quick overview of the island's extraordinary scale. The Boardwalk encircling the outer crescent is 11 kilometres of waterfront walking and cycling with spectacular views back toward the Dubai skyline.
Atlantis The Palm at the apex of the crescent is the centrepiece — its waterpark Aquaventure is among the world's best, and its restaurants include the renowned Nobu and Ossiano, set in an underwater aquarium that surrounds diners with marine life. The Palm Fountain near the Pointe shopping district on the crescent is the world's largest fountain display, with evening shows choreographed to music that attract substantial crowds on weekend nights.
Nakheel Mall at the base of the Palm has a rooftop observation deck with panoramic views over the entire island and the Dubai coastline — free to access and genuinely rewarding. For beach access, multiple beach clubs along the trunk offer day passes with sun-lounger service and pool access. The vibe on Palm Jumeirah is luxurious and spacious — the low-density villa communities and wide boulevards contrast sharply with central Dubai's density, making it feel like a separate city with its own rhythm and atmosphere.
